Moab is internationally famous for its epic mountain biking, but the Intrepid Trail system offers slickrock riding even for beginners. The easiest and shortest loop is the Intrepid, followed by the 4.2 mile Great Pyramid, with the nine-mile Big Chief as the most challenging route.
If hiking is your passion, just five miles from town is Arches National Park. Over 2,000 natural sandstone arches dot the landscape here, making you ponder the forces that were at work to create these beauties, and putting the forces in your own life into perspective. Arches’ seven mile round-trip Devil’s Garden Trail is challenging and exhilarating.
Maybe the legs aren’t so great these days, but don’t despair! Canyonlands National Park is just a 40 minute drive from Moab, and here you can experience a wilderness of countless canyons and fantastically formed buttes as you motor your way to Grand View Point. The weather can change rapidly in winter, and trails can get slippery or icy, but the park is open year-round.
And what about the eats and drinks after a long day out on the rocks? Moab’s only microbrewery, cleverly named Moab Brewery, serves up a mean IPA and darn good burgers and onion rings too! Start your day out right at the Love Muffin Café with their famous huevos rancheros, and for a night on the town, reserve your spot at Desert Bistro, featuring haute cuisine and glorious views.
