Out of the chaos of the Revolutionary War, a group of men including John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and 53 others signed their names to the Declaration of Independence, freeing the thirteen colonies from the rule of King George III of England and establishing the United States of America.

The parkway runs from City Hall to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, another top spot. The steps leading into this museum were Stallone’s favorite workout in the film Rocky.
Other authentic old city sites in downtown Philly include tiny Elfreth’s Alley, where makers of all ilks once thrived, including Dolley Madison and seamstress Betsy Ross. Today this area is popular for its eclectic blend of bistros, cafes, art galleries and boutiques.
