George Washington Birthday Parade

“The largest parade celebrating Washington’s birthday in the USA!”

With the inspirational sounds of the revolutionary band playing, while being decked out in the century clothing, it’s literally like taking a step back in time.

“Walking with Washington”

This tour is designed to improve your knowledge of Washington and Alexandria, his home town. Stroll down and learn little known facts about Washington’s life and his influence on our country.

Dates:  Every Sunday in February (1st, 8th, 15th, & 22nd, 2015)

Time:  2 p.m. (tour lasts about one hour)

Location:  Meet at the Ramsay House Visitors Center (near the intersection of King & Fairfax Streets)

LAREDO TEXAS

Laredo Texas celebrates President’s Day with a style all their own! Laredo Texas you ask? Well as a matter of fact, yes!  In fact one of the most asked questions is, “Why celebrate Washington’s Birthday on the border?” The answer must be attributed to the original planners of the celebration, the patriotic Improved Order of the Red Men. The committee was looking for a traditionally “American” holiday to celebrate that might offer the best of all cultures influencing the heritage of Laredo’s citizens.

After over a hundred years of tradition, the annual celebration and has grown in size, and popularity which now includes more than twenty-eight events that covers a period of four weeks. It attracts approximately 400,000 attendees annually and has a tremendous positive economic impact on the city.
